I found myself working in hospitals as a Respiratory Therapist. I'd always had an interest in natural and homeopathic remedies. It was an interesting experience to work with the breath both as a yogi and a Respiratory Therapist. However, many of my patients were struggling and literally fighting for their lives to breathe, a symptom of larger issues. Some patients smoked and despite being on a ventilator only an hour before, they had no desire to change their habits. But others would look with regret, and express how much they wished they had known better or done things differently. As a continuing yogi, I realized that it was indeed symptom management I was doing and that those that wanted to change seemed to lack the direction or often the support to change their habits. I realized that THAT was true medicine and would get to the root cause of the suffering my patients were experiencing.
So with the realization that prevention and support were better aligned with my desires to help people, I pursued a health and wellness coaching certification through the Catalyst Coaching Institute. My interest and practice in Yoga, and experience with the changes yoga made in my life choices, led me to also pursue my yoga teacher training. It was during the teacher training with Shannon Paige at The School of Embodied Poetry that I was introduced to Ayurveda. It was a brief introduction, a suggestion to read a short reference book and use ghee. It was logical. It was practical. It was so simple! THIS WAS THE MISSING PIECE! And so, with a desire to learn more of this holistic natural medicine system, I enrolled at Maharishi International University to study Ayurveda.
I have since graduated and opened my own practice in Grand Junction, CO where I see clients for various ailments and discomforts. Empowering those clients to make lasting changes by introducing them to simple techniques and adjustments that make a massive impact on their health and overall wellbeing.
I am also on the board for the Colorado Ayurvedic Medical Association whose mission is to spread awareness and accessibility of Ayurveda, and Orange Door Community Wellness whose mission is to make yoga and other wellness modalities accessible to populations that might not otherwise have access for various reasons.
